YWCA to Host 21st Annual Side By Side Event

YWCA of Central Virginia is proud to continue our tradition of racial justice and civil rights by hosting our 21st Annual Side By Side Walk.

The annual Side by Side for Racial Justice and Harmony Walk is the primary event of the YWCA’s Racial Justice program.

We will celebrate our 21st Annual Walk on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 11:30-1pm.  A light lunch will be provided after our brief 10-minute walk while we hear from Mr. Nick George, Executive Director of The Listening.

Sign up to attend our walk at our Eventbrite page — registration is free but it helps us to make sure there is lunch for all!

Who is The Listening

The Listening aims to engage, change and save lives with the performing arts. Since 2013, The Listening in Lynchburg, Virginia has been actively been engaging Lynchburg’s creative community with regular events like open mic sessions, movie screening, and special performance showcases. From poets to dancers to singers to thespians, the stage was set at various locations around the city with an open invitation.

With the support of the community for the past five years, it has grown into a bolder purpose of youth focus and engagement but the original question remains the same: “If you had a room full of people willing to listen to you, what would you say?”

The Listening in Lynchburg, Virginia helps the local community by creating a network of creative citizens who care about helping our community thrive. Often, this means reaching out to our most vulnerable members, such as youth and marginalized groups.
